The People Promise -
This is a promise we must all make to each other – to work together to improve the experience of working in the NHS for everyone.
The themes and words that make up Our People Promise have come from those who work in the NHS. People in different healthcare roles and organisations have made it clear what matters most to them, and what would make the greatest difference in improving their experience in the workplace.
What was the People Promise programme –
The purpose of the People Promise Exemplar Programme was to test the assumption that optimum delivery of all NHS People Promise interventions delivered in one place simultaneously can deliver improved staff experience and retention outcomes - beyond the sum of the individual components.
Process Followed –
Lincolnshire has had four exemplar sites, two in cohort one United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals (ULTH) and Lincolnshire community Health Trust (LCHS) and two in cohort two Lincolnshire Partnership Foundation Trust (LPFT) and Primary Care.
Cohorts in Lincolnshire followed similar processes however, cohort one lasted two years and cohort two twelve months. This allowed cohort one exemplars to use the below process as a cycle and promoted a continuous improvement methodology.
Lessons Learned and Evaluation –
Lincolnshire has participated in cohort one national evaluation research and continues to support evaluation for cohort two. Initial findings align to those at individual trust/exemplar level.
Key areas to success include:
- Board level ownership and engagement.
- True self-assessment and data driven identification of action plans and interventions.
- Flexibility and tailoring of interventions to local need.
- Access to relevant data both local and national.
- Sharing and supporting of best practice and resources.
